Performance of a type-II hybrid ARQ protocol in slotted DS-SSMA packet radio systems

چکیده
In this paper, the application of a type-II hybrid ARQ protocol in a slotted direct-sequence spread-spectrum multiple-access (DS-SSMA) packet radio system is investigated. Both the static performance and the dynamic performance of such a system are analyzed. In the physical layer, packet error and packet success probabilities are computed using the improved Gaussian approximation technique, which accounts for the bit-to-bit error dependence within a packet. In the data-link layer, two-dimensional Markov chains are employed to model the system dynamic. Based on this model, the performance of the type-II hybrid ARQ protocol is upper and lower bounded by considering, respectively, a superior scheme and an inferior scheme. Steady state throughput and delay performances of the two bounding schemes are obtained. Moreover, it is shown that for each fixed input load, there is an optimal retransmission probability under the finite user population assumption. Bounds on this optimal retransmission probability are also given.

متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Slotted ALOHA FH-SSMA Systems with Generalized Retransmission Backoff
In distributed spread-spectrum packet radio networks where the number of active users and the packet arrival rate may vary with time, an adaptive channel access protocol is necessary to avoid system saturation. In this paper, we present an analytical investigation of generalized retransmission backoff policies for slotted ALOHA FH-SSMA systems. In the backoff techniques, each user adapts the re...
متن کاملPerformance of H.263 Video Transmission over Wireless Channels Using Hybrid ARQ
This paper proposes a hybrid ARQ error control scheme based on the concatenation of a Reed–Solomon (RS) code and a rate-compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) code for low-bit-rate video transmission over wireless channels. The concatenated hybrid ARQ scheme we propose combines the advantages of both type-I and type-II hybrid ARQ schemes. Certain error correction capability is provided in ea...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Impact of SR-ARQ on the IP Packet Delay Performance in Mobile Data Networks
To achieve Quality of Service (QoS) in mobile data networks is a challenging taskmainly due to the specific behaviour of the radio channel. Radio links are char-acterized by large fluctuations of quality because they are prone to transmissionerrors. A set of techniques have been developed to maximize their reliability andone of the most common solutions is called Selective Repea...
